VoIP Systems

For those of you new to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), let's start with a little explaining. There are two types of VoIP. There's the part inside your building and then the part connecting your systems to the rest of the world.

We offer VoIP inside your building, but we'll explain the latter first.

You can connect your system to the rest of the world with VoIP trunks. You can connect your IP Phone system and your Digital Phone system this way. Now you can pay for VoIP trunks through a third party service or connect two offices together free over the Internet. Either way it's a great way to connect Telecommuters.

Now, let's talk about what happens inside your building. A VoIP phone system is a system that runs on your LAN. The same LAN that your computers run on.

There are different levels of VoIP, if you will.

  • You can have a digital system and add 3rd party VoIP boxes to it, typically to connect multiple offices and Telecommuters
  • Have a system that supports both digital phones and IP Phones. This system will run on your station cabling and your LAN
  • Have a system that support IP Phones only and runs only on your LAN

As you can imagine, there are pros and cons to each. Reliability and Survivability are key. Also factor in cost of ownership, features that you need, and how long has a particular supplier has been in the business.

Now that you've finished VoIP 101, give us a call and we'll configure the IP Solution that is right for your business.
